<p>Chalkwell Redcaps SLSC is a social swimming club in Essex that welcomes people of any age or ability and has lifeguards that support the club&#8217;s swims. Based at Chalkwell Esplanade, the club hopes to reach its roots further by beginning to organise &#8216;away&#8217; swims as well as swims further along the Southend stretch of coast (taking the lifeguards with them of course). Whether you want to be clocking up the kms, or having a cold dip and natter, the benefits of joining a social swim community like this one are huge. The company even organises Bluetit holidays (perfect for solo travellers), which will see you taking a dip in places such as Switzerland and the Alpine lakes in Slovenia.</p>

<p>The reservoir at Hadleigh Park (home of the Olympic Mountain Bike course), sits in 500 acres of scenic countryside, and is conveniently located close to the Hub Café so you can grab a hot tea after. There are qualified lifeguards here so you can enjoy an energetic, or more leisurely, swim around the 380m course, with a little more confidence – good to know if you&#8217;re new to open water swimming.</p>

<p>Okay so this one is not for those looking for a leisurely float –&nbsp;Trifarm, as the name suggests, is for triathlon training. There are all kinds of sessions available, including lessons for novices looking to build confidence in open water. As well as Tri Curious courses and Swim and Sauna sessions. You don&#8217;t have to rush off after training either – there&#8217;s bacon rolls at weekends, and emergency cake for when you need a sugar rush, and quick.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-mersea-water-park-east-mersea"><a href="https://merseawaterpark.co.uk/open-water-swimming/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mersea Water Park</a>, East Mersea</h2>



<p>Book an early morning weekend swim in the saltwater lake at Mersea Water Park (you may know it as Mersea Boating lake), and you&#8217;ll start the day right. With the buoyancy of sea water, but a tad warmer, you can relax on the beach after or treat yourself to a well earned breakfast at The Lake House. There are lifeguards on watch and dedicated swimming zones for safety, so this is a great one for getting the whole family involved in your new adventure.</p>

<p>From<strong> May-Sept</strong>, Alexandra Lake (yes the one next to The Boardwalk), is open at weekends to swimmers. Clean and sheltered, the lake has marked courses from 50m, up to a new 400m loop. Also new this year are changing rooms and hot showers (maybe that will encourage you). Lifeguarded and with a strong community, this is a great place to get started.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-be-endurance-open-water-swimming-luxborough-lake-chigwell"><a href="https://beenduranceopenwater.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Be Endurance Open Water Swimming</a>, Luxborough Lake, Chigwell</h2>



<p>Jump into Luxborough Lake for a scenic swim, ideal for all abilities whether you&#8217;re a new starter or improving your performance. Open all year round, in the winter months there&#8217;s <a href="https://beenduranceopenwater.com/elementor-page-1566/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sauna &amp; Dip</a> sessions here too, for days when you would prefer a quick plunge over a long swim. Swimmers new to the lake will need to book an induction swim on a weekend morning before taking the plunge on an open swim. The lake has 250m, 500m or 750m loops, but unlike in the pool, there&#8217;s no pressure to stick to a speed.</p>

<p>The times you can take a dip at Gosfield Lake are select, but the scenery alone is worth the wait. And the fact that it&#8217;s fairly shallow (you can put your feet down in the majority of places) makes this a great place for swimmers looking to build their confidence. </p>
