<p>First on our Essex bluebells walks is set in 100 acres of National Trust land. Meander through the ancient oaks, listening for woodpeckers and following the 2.5-mile trail to Danbury Common. When you’ve had your fill of blue beauties, hotfoot to <a aria-label="The Anchor (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.theanchordanbury.co.uk/index" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Anchor</a> in Danbury for lunch in the garden.</p>

<p>This seven-hectare wood is a little pocket of Essex countryside that we&#8217;re almost reluctant to share. Come spring it’s covered in bluebells, plus wood violets and even purple orchids. Essex Wildlife Trust oversees the ancient woodland and there are lots of different tracks to follow, making it a firm favourite.</p>

<p>Colchester’s answer to Central Park is soon set to burst into bloom. That means it&#8217;s got to be on our Essex bluebell walks must-see! Take the family for a stroll through the woods, or let the kids tire themselves out on the playground while you sip a tea. Weather-dependant you can also pack a picnic and eat by the lake.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Another must on our Essex bluebell walks is this truly magical reserve. It radiates colour in spring thanks to bluebells, wood anemone, dog violets and pale pink cuckooflowers. Visit in summer as well, to see dragonflies flit around and glow worms light up the sky.</p>

<p>Dating back at least 400 years, this very special 175-acre site has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. We&#8217;ve always known it as a great place to walk the dog, chomp sandwiches in the picnic area and admire all the gorgeous blooms in spring.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Also overseen by Essex Wildlife Trust, this is a big site at 55 acres, with plenty of winding paths to explore. You’ll want your phone fully charged for the excursion as this scenic wood is perfect for Insta #essexbluebells shots.</p>

<p>There are Essex bluebell walks aplenty at this 30 acre site of ancient woodland. It also has lots of bonus stuff to entertain all ages, from the reservoir to a café on the water and even impressive guided nature trails.&nbsp;</p>

<p>They’re so proud of their bluebells in this slice of rural Essex that the park made a YouTube video about them! Head to the visitor centre, then pick up a map and make your way to Whitehall or Running Water woods and prepare to be dazzled by nature.&nbsp;Make an afternoon of it as there are flower meadows, a playground, lakes and café, too.</p>

<p>Enjoy a stroll around the circular footpath in this three-hectare site, which is home to ponds, ancient woodland and bluebells each spring. It’s a peaceful pocket of countryside where oaks, ash and sweet chestnuts provide shade. When you’ve completed your circuit and built up an appetite, grab some delicious food in the <a aria-label="White Hart (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.whitehartwestbergholt.com/index" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">White Hart</a> in West Bergholt.</p>

<p>Last on our Essex bluebell walks is this nature reserve. Here, Wivenhoe Woods springs into life with a colourful display of, of course, bluebells. If you&#8217;re taking kids be prepared for muddy knees and bums, as the steep slope close to the town&#8217;s park is irresistible for climbing up and sliding down. Afterwards, finish the fun with ice cream or cake at <a href="https://jillhowland.wixsite.com/maisonmollie" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maison Mollie</a>.</p>
