<p>Hooray! You can now get your Gail’s fix closer to home – no train or tube required. This spring (opening date is still TBC I’m told), the artisan bakery is branching out to the bright lights of Brentwood high street. What’s on the menu? Delicious handmade bread, savouries, pastries and cakes. Here’s looking at you flaky, warm, chocolatey almond croissant. *Heads to kitchen to make snack*</p>

<p>After being closed for almost a decade, this former island boozer is currently being transformed into a super-stylish restaurant with rooms. Who’s behind it? Local publican and all-round legend, Piers Baker – the man behind <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="The Sun Inn (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.thesuninndedham.com/" target="_blank">The Sun Inn</a> in Dedham (pictured) and <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Church Street Tavern (opens in a new tab)" href="https://churchstreettavern.co.uk/#welcome" target="_blank">Church Street Tavern</a> in Colchester. The £1 million refurb – due to be completed by the end of May – will include six chic bedrooms, an oak-panelled lounge, and a cool outdoor seating area. And, we hear the menus are set to rival its sister restaurants…</p>

<p>A cool new location for a cool restaurant. Fête was just one of the local businesses that Covid hit hard, but this year it’s coming back fighting with a new home (just next door to its previous location) in trendy Grays Yard. The menu will be brand new, bar a few old favourites – good news for fans of the Nutella French Toast. Yum. Details of the opening have been pretty hush hush so far, but a little Fête birdy tells me it’s set to open at the beginning of March.  Watch this space!</p>

<p>So, apparently, it’s not about WFH anymore, it’s all about WNH (Working Near Home) – so the cool kids tell me. Cue Patch: a stylish, flexible working space that’s just sprouted up in Chelmsford city centre. Think exposed brick meeting rooms, trendy furniture, shared desks and free coffee on tap. Sorry, postie, I’ll be ticking the ‘deliver to neighbour’ box from now on.</p>
