Best local beach huts to hire

Oh we do like to be beside the seaside, particularly if we’re in a beautiful beach hut with lots of luxe extras! Here’s our pick of the best local huts, which make a day at the coast a breeze.

Ever had beach hut envy while walking along the prom at Essex Riviera escapes like Frinton? Me too! Which is why I’ve made it my mission to track down all the best ones in the area and share the knowledge so that this summer Muddy readers can be the ones sitting outside a colourful hut sipping wine in the sun while the kids play barefoot on the sand!

Beach Hut Hire, Holland-on-Sea

Take your pick from three cute huts (Stripey, Blue and Lily) overlooking Holland-on-Sea’s sandy shore. Inside they’re filled with all the things you need to take the hassle out of a day at the coast, from parasols and windbreaks to buckets and spades, meaning you can travel light. There’s also a gas stove with a whistling kettle for brews and a frying pan too, though Beach Haven Cafe’s only a short stroll away for bacon sandwiches and salty chips. From £55 per day

The Little Beach Hut Company, Mersea Island

Influencers flock to Mersea each summer to pose by the pastel-coloured beach huts, but why not go one better and hire one for the day? Peggy, Lottie and Kitty are beautifully decorated but if we had to pick one for the day it would be Bertie, a blue and white nautically-inspired hut of dreams from the bunting to the polka dot tea cups. Right on the beach, you can sit in the hut’s deck chairs and gaze at the horizon while scoffing afternoon tea. From £65 per day

Cool Coastal Huts, Frinton

One of Muddy’s favourite beaches in Essex also has some of the best (and most expensive) beach huts in the county. Check out Frinton 343, a luxe, Hamptons-esque cladded hut right by the beach which comes with a sleek little kitchen, comfy seating, table and chairs plus board games and playing cards (great if rain stops play). It holds up to eight people, so perfect for a family gathering or a group of mates. From £85 per day

Daisy Beach Huts, Walton on the Naze

There’s a rainbow of colourful huts lining Walton’s golden sand beaches, including bright pink Lily which comes with fab floral beach chairs. We also love dazzling yellow Daisy. All the huts come with a kettle, table, beach toys, blankets and crockery. Spend your day hunting for fossils (Muddy’s found fossilised sharks teeth in rocks beneath the cliffs), play on the sand or simply curl up on the cushions and gaze at the view with a glass of something chilled. From £40 per day

Buttercup Beach Hut, Thorpe Bay, Southend on Sea

Plenty to get excited about in this gem of a hut on the sea front. From her lilac-clad walls to her cool striped sofa, fluttering bunting in the breeze and wooden deck from which you can step onto the sand, she’s made for Instagram. There’s a decent-sized kitchen area too, so nothing to stop you enjoying breakfast, lunch and sunset dinner by the ocean. From £70 per day

Millie’s Beach Huts, Walton on the Naze

These cheerful huts have appeared in The Guardian, The Telegraph, Forbes and even on TV. Choose from huts on Walton’s Southcliff or Eastcliff (a calmer, quieter stretch of sand) beaches. Muddy has a crush on Seas The Moment, a blue, white and pink cabin with lots of lovely touches, like beach hut cushions, ship’s wheel mirror and nautical table cloth. Holds up to eight guests and dog-friendly too. From £47 per day

Beach Huts, Maldon

Perfect for a family day out, these eight pretty pastel huts are actually in Promenade Park close to the super popular Splash Park and play area. They make a great base, with deckchairs and plug sockets so you can make sure your mobile has enough battery to capture all those #BeachHut moments. From £45 per day

Red Beach Hut, Walton on the Naze

Clue’s in the name! This bright red beauty is easy to spot and a treat inside, with a table, seating for up to six, fresh flowers, dinky kitchen, games, books, and even a yoga mat. We also love the red hutters community and mindfullness events, like sunrise swimming, mindful crochet and full moon cacao ceremony and swim – check website for details. From £45 per day

    Hi Rose,

thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I’ve had a look at the website and the hut is gorgeous, so pretty (love the deckchairs too!). Great recommendation!

I would like to recommend ‘The Hut Mersea Island’ Beach Hut Hire – it is looked after by a wonderful Manager called Ty , his mum is his very helpful secretary. You will find very positive posts and recommendations from people who have used the Hut. Ty has shared with everyone that the hut was used as a special place for a ‘proposal’! There was a local article written about Ty and how he wants to make sure that everyone has a lovely time at the Hut- what is important to Ty is kindness. Recently he helped a young lady tick an item off her ‘bucket list’ – everything was done to ensure that it was a very special day for her. The family wrote ‘We were provided with a lovely opportunity to make memories and escape reality for a day.’ I love visiting the Hut , nothing is too much trouble for Ty – he is caring and wants everyone who visits the hut to have the best time ever. http://www.thehutmerseaisland.co.uk
