The Fox on the Green, Finchingfield
A super-pretty pub in one of Essex’s prettiest villages boasting unrivalled views, waterside dining and fine local fare.
Oh, now this is what I call a quintessential country pub. Nestled in the heart of Finchingfield, The Fox On The Green is a firm favourite with locals and non-locals alike – and it’s not hard to see why.
Crammed with character – think low beams and inglenook fireplaces – this 16th century coaching inn serves up top-notch pub grub, great local plonk and some of the most picturesque views of the village. What’s the vibe? Warm and friendly with a lovely country pub hubbub (there’s not a hint of pretension here FYI).
Pull up pew on the front terrace to watch the ducks glide across the pond, head to the beer garden out back to escape the hustle and bustle, or dine inside to enjoy some delicious dishes showcasing fine local produce. Decisions, decisions.
Brilliantly, the chefs source the restaurant’s fruit and veg from Finchingfield Post Office and Stores (very cute) while Keith, the friendly publican, keeps the bar well stocked with Finchingfield Gin and the palest pink rosé from Toppesfield Vineyard just down the road. We’ll definitely cheers to that!
Good to know? The pub also plays host to wedding breakfasts, private parties and local events. And, if you’ve enjoyed one too many glasses of the pink stuff *hic*, you can book into luxury local rental The Old Farmhouse (just a five minute taxi ride away).
