Galvin Green Man, close to Great Waltham, is an award winning, Bib Gourmand British pub and restaurant, with beautiful panoramic views of the Essex countryside. It’s a popular choice, and not just with Chelmsford  locals, having won the National Pub & Bar Awards for both Essex and the East of England.

The main building dates back to 1341, lending the pub its cosy feel, while the more contemporary glass extension houses the bright and spacious dining room. There are five private dining spaces too, that can seat between 8-18 guests (or standing parties of up to 25 people), each fully equipped with WiFi, a large screen TV, DVD player and inbuilt speakers for music. And with group dining menus and half and full day delegate packages, they have everything needed for an intimate celebration.

In the summer the outside space comes into its own – the terrace is just the right spot for al fresco dining, while the extensive garden, with the River Chelmer running through it, is perfect makings for a leisurely weekend (plus the play area will keep little ones busy).

Now the bit everyone really wants to know – what’s on the menu? Well it’s constantly changing, dependent on the seasons and local suppliers, both of which are top of the agenda when it comes to sourcing fresh ingredients. If pub classics are your thing then the pub menu will have that – think beer battered haddock, gravy-laden pies, Cumberland sausages and steaming fruit crumble with lashings of custard. If you’re feeling fancy then the dining room’s  A La Carte and Bib Gourmand menus might be your choice. And the Sunday roasts here are legendary.
