First on our Essex 2025 charity races is the <a href="https://www.entrycentral.com/event/126435" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cold Norton Charity Winter 10K and Half Marathon</a> (9 Feb). Currently full (but put your name down on that waiting list!) it&#8217;s held in aid of Farleigh Hospice. Kicking off in South Woodham Ferrers, you run on grass, tracks and paths. With all of Farleigh Hospice&#8217;s services available to Mid Essex free of charge, this is one to put your name down for.



To 23 March now, with the <a href="https://www.kidsinspire.org.uk/challenge-events/bakers-brentwood-half-marathon-2025#:~:text=About%20Bakers%20Brentwood%20Half%20Marathon,to%20give%20it%20a%20go%3F" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bakers Brentwood Half Marathon</a> supporting children&#8217;s mental health charity, Kids Inspire. The race starts at 10am, with chip timing and a 100% recycled zinc medal. There&#8217;s also cash prices for the first three to cross the line. And a free download of official event photos – the ones where you look like you&#8217;re about to pass out.

If you don&#8217;t fancy pounding the pavement head to <a href="https://swim22.diabetes.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Diabetes UK and their Swim 22 Challenge</a>. Taking place between 22 March-22 June, swim 11, 22 (distance of the English Channel!) or 44 miles over 12 weeks. Swimming the &#8216;channel&#8217; works out at less than two miles a week; easy peasy. Don&#8217;t panic at the above pic: they don&#8217;t expect you to do the butterfly. If you can we&#8217;re super-impressed.



Half marathon in Essex in support of a local charity? It&#8217;s right here. Step forward the <a href="https://www.headwayessex.org.uk/headway-events/chelmsford-half-marathon-2025/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chelmsford Half Marathon</a> (3 March), running in aid of Headway Essex. Supporting those living with an acquired brain injury, it also helps families and carers to cope with caring. Starting and finishing at Anglia Ruskin University, it&#8217;s on closed roads and passes Chelmsford&#8217;s major landmarks.

Another on our round-up of Essex 2025 charity races is Hastingwood&#8217;s <a href="https://stclarehospice.org.uk/event/st-clare-hospice-10k-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Clare 10k 2025</a>. Held on 6 April, the charity helps adults with life-limiting illness, facing the end of life, or experiencing bereavement. Early bird tickets are £15 (affiliated or wheelchair racer) or £17 for standard entry until 31 Jan – get in there sharpish!



Fancy getting down and dirty? Don&#8217;t be naughty, now. The 4 May <a href="https://maldonmudrace.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Maldon Mud Race</a> is, of course, a muddy 400 metres over the bed of the River Blackwater. You&#8217;ll get filthy but will support a ton of charities, including the Essex &amp; Herts Air Ambulance and the Little Edi Foundation.

Southend&#8217;s next on our list of Essex 2025 charity races. Why? Their <a href="https://raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/find-an-event/garon-park-5k-2025-05-11-1100" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Race For Life 5k</a> on 11 May for Cancer Research UK, of course. Walk or run at your own pace in Garon Park, with no pressure to finish in a certain time. Even better is the fact that those six and over can join in, costing £11 up to the age of 15 and then £15.99 from 16 and above. Plus use the code RACE25NY to get 50% off entry until 31 Jan. Again, get in there sharpish!



If you want to help people struggling with mental health then the <a href="https://mnessexmind.org/p/colchesterstampede2025/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Colchester Stampede 10k</a> on 18 May&#8216;s the one for you. Held in Colchester Zoo, grab those trainers and electrolytes and help <a href="https://mnessexmind.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mid and North Essex Mind</a>, a charity offering mental health support for kids and adults. Afterwards, enjoy a stroll to see the animals you zoomed passed on the course. It costs just £19 to enter, with a free running vest if you fundraise £50 or more.

We&#8217;re back in Southend for a longer distance: the <a href="https://www.havenshospices.org.uk/support-us/events/southend-half-marathon-2025/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Southend Half Marathon</a> (8 June). You&#8217;ll run to help Havens Hospices, a charity offering palliative nursing and supportive care to adults and children with complex or incurable conditions. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or jogging in memory of a loved one, with every step you contribute to ‘making every day count’ for those that need help the most. You can do it.



Last on our Essex 2025 charity races is the Essex Wildlife Trust <a href="https://www.essexwt.org.uk/events/running-wild" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Running Wild</a> race (21 June). Suitable for all abilities and ages 13+, this 5K muddy course sees you climb, crawl and jump across obstacles, finishing with a 20-foot &#8216;Deathslide&#8217; into a lake. Held at Brentwood&#8217;s Nuclear Races, by fundraising for the trust you&#8217;re doing something amazing for Essex wildlife. And that post-race shower that&#8217;s included&#8217;s going to feel immense.
