<p>OK, so it&#8217;s no longer a pub, but it was – and Jamie Oliver owned it! Bought by the Essex chef in 2006, it&#8217;s thought to be more than 400 years old, first listed as The Cock Inn back in the 1800s. Converted <a href="https://search.savills.com/property-detail/gbchrscli223665" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">into a private house</a> in 2013, it&#8217;s in Beazley End and on the market for £975k. There&#8217;s four bedrooms with ensuite in the master, four reception rooms, kitchen/breakfast area, utility room and cellar. <p>Next on our latest Essex news is Witham born Olly, spotted at Hatfield Peveral&#8217;s <a href="https://bluestrawberrybistro.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Blue Strawberry Bistrot</a>. He&#8217;s got good taste: the restaurant has an enviable reputation due to its food, service and value for money. Their <a href="https://bluestrawberrybistro.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/prix-fixe-menu-2024.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Prixe Fixe Menu</a>&#8216;s one example; £25.95 for two courses and a third for £6.50. Available Mon-Thurs all day and Fri-Sat until 3pm, starters include soup, prawn and bacon salad and mini cottage pie, with mains such as chicken chasseur and griddled pork chop. Pudding? We&#8217;ll take the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.</p>

<p>Following a £1million refurbishment, Brentwood restaurant <a href="https://masonsrestaurant.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mason&#8217;s</a> is open for business. The main dining area&#8217;s been transformed with booths and round tables, and the outdoor area&#8217;s also had a classy update. Food-wise, there&#8217;s no longer a set lunch, now swapped with a <a href="https://masonsrestaurant.co.uk/small-plate-lunch-menu/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Small Plates</a> option. Costing £8 a plate or three for £21, options include salt and pepper tempura squid with monkfish, bourbon glazed chicken kebabs and grilled goat&#8217;s cheese, pomegranate and walnut salad. No kids allowed under 13 after 5.30pm on a Fri/Sat.</p>

<p>Also on our latest Essex news is the opening of <a href="https://thelounges.co.uk/carpino/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Carpino Lounge</a> in Epping. A dog-friendly eaterie, there&#8217;s patterned wallpaper and stripped wooden floors as well as eclectic artwork and oversized vintage sofas. Menu-wise, you&#8217;ve standard, gluten-free, vegan and kids&#8217; choices all available, offering brunch, sarnies, burgers, salads, tapas and more. There&#8217;s also plenty of offers on throughout the week, such as their Teatime Tipple of any two cocktails for £12.50, Sun-Thurs, 5-8pm. Cheers to that!</p>

<p>Last on our latest Essex news is the sad announcement that Leigh on Sea restaurant <a href="https://www.oaktreebistro.co.uk">The OakTree </a>has closed. Having kickstarted the vegan restaurant scene in 2013, it delivered a 100% vegan menu – even down to the drinks served. Announcing their closure on Facebook, the team said they&#8217;d &#8220;worked tirelessly to keep it going but unfortunately the time has come.&#8221; They&#8217;re on the lookout for someone to take over the lease, asking people to email info@oaktreebistro.co.uk to get put in touch with agents, Essex and Suffolk Business Sales.</p>
