<p>First on our Essex restaurants for Mother&#8217;s Day is this <a href="https://www.mimosa-colchester.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Mimosa-Mothers-Day-Brunch-2025.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mimosa</a> brunch. At £21.95 for adults and £10.95 for under 12s, there&#8217;s fruit salad or bakery basket to start. Next comes a choice of a huge full English (it&#8217;s a whopper: two sausages, two rashers of bacon, two hash browns, grilled tomato, baked beans and two poached or fried eggs). If you fancy something lighter there&#8217;s plenty more, like eggs Benedict and French toast.  </p>



<p>Maldon&#8217;s <a href="https://www.lebouchon.co.uk/index.php/mother-s-day-2025/mother-s-day-menu" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Le Bouchon Brasserie &amp; Hotel</a> is also on our Essex restaurants for Mother&#8217;s Day. Why, we hear you cry? OK, cry&#8217;s a slight exaggeration. For £46pp you&#8217;ve four courses, beginning with rosemary focaccia. Next, there&#8217;s five starters – the leek, saffron and parmesan croquettes sound lush. For the main event choose one of six, like roast sirloin of beef (plus additional gravy boat for £2 if you&#8217;re as big a fan as us). The grand finale? Five sweet treats or European cheeses with celery, grapes and crackers (£4 extra).</p>

<p>Next on our Essex restaurants for Mother&#8217;s Day, the <a href="https://magicmushroomrestaurant.co.uk/mothers-day/mothers-day-restaurant/#menu|3" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Magic Mushroom</a> has a set meal for £50pp (kids three courses, £25; two for £20). There&#8217;s seven starters like chicken liver parfait with chutney and toasted brioche. There&#8217;s also eight mains (we&#8217;ll take the lamb rump with mash, red cabbage and mint jus). For pud? Eight desserts (no, not them all). The dark chocolate tart with ice cream and hazelnut praline sounds like heaven on a plate. Vegans are also well catered and there&#8217;s a good kids&#8217; menu.</p>



<p>Saffron Walden&#8217;s <a href="https://www.saffrongrange.com/product/mothers-day-afternoon-tea/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Saffron Grange Vineyard</a>&#8216;s £40pp afternoon tea menu is seasonal dishes made with local ingredients (and award-winning wines – yay!). It kicks off with Cuvée or Sparkling Rosé (plus tea or coffee for you drivers). Finger sarnies include ham hock with red onion jam, as well as classics like egg and watercress (yum). Scones come as standard, with other treats like chocolate truffle tart and pistachio and raspberry cupcakes.</p>

<p>Another fab place to dine is Ongar&#8217;s <a href="https://alecsrestaurant.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/mothersDay24.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alec&#8217;s</a>; pricier at £85pp but my oh my it&#8217;s worth it. Famous for fish; we&#8217;re all over the lobster soup with lemon, brioche and white crab (not literally, of course). Out of 12 mains you&#8217;ve meat, fish, veggie and vegan options, but our eye&#8217;s on the Scottish salmon and scallops with teriyaki sauce and bok choy. Then there&#8217;s desserts: yes please to the banoffee cheesecake.</p>



<p>We like how Chelmsford&#8217;s <a href="https://www.pigandwhistlechelmsford.uk/mothersday" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pig &amp; Whistle Restaurant</a> gives you two dates (29 and 30 March). The Sat lunch&#8217;s a steal at two courses for £19/three for £24. Or choose Sunday at two courses for £32/three for £40. Now comes what to eat. There&#8217;s a carrot and coriander soup, Suffolk chicken breast with petit pois a la Fricassee (peas with bacon, onion and lettuce if you&#8217;re not in the know). For the third course it&#8217;s got to be sticky toffee pud. Because who doesn&#8217;t love sticky toffee pud. You? We can&#8217;t be friends.</p>

<p>Not been to the <a href="https://www.roslinhotel.com/roslin-dining/mothers-day" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Roslin</a> yet? You&#8217;re missing out. Treat mum to Sunday dinner or afternoon tea, with the first option three courses at £65pp, or afternoon tea £50 a pop. They&#8217;ve yet to reveal what you&#8217;ll feast on, but you pretty much know what&#8217;s on that tiered afternoon tea tray. And considering their à la carte includes King scallops, Angus fillet and nutmeg and brown sugar caramel custard tart you know it&#8217;s going to be damn good.</p>



<p>Another restaurant serving afternoon tea (27-29 March) or Sunday lunch (30 March) is <a href="https://www.merseabarns.com/mothers-day-at-mersea-barns/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mersea Barns</a> in – why what a surprise! – Mersea. If opting for the first it&#8217;s £25pp with sandwiches, savoury snacks, scones and cake bites. Plus you can upgrade with Prosecco (erm, hello!). Lunch is just as good, with prices from £18-£20 for a main. What would we have? Deep fried brie with chilli jam, mushrooms flambé and an ice-cream, cream, raspberry and choc sauce and homemade tuile sundae. There&#8217;s a kids&#8217; menu, too. </p>

<p>Who else would we recommend for Essex restaurants for Mother&#8217;s Day? <a href="https://smithsrestaurants.com/wp-content/uploads/Mothers-Day-2025.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Smith&#8217;s</a>; also famed for fish. With three courses at £70pp dishes include cream of sweetcorn and Cornish crab soup with spring onion and chilli. Next there&#8217;s six mains – do you go for the Atlantic cod fillet or line-caught Guernsey skate? Then there&#8217;s more good news, as you get to pick anything for dessert from their à la carte. And don&#8217;t fret if fish isn&#8217;t your thing: meat eaters, veggies and vegans are also well looked after.</p>



<p><a href="https://www.waterfrontharwich.co.uk/menus/event-menu-mothers-day/">The Waterfront</a> in Harwich is another of our Essex restaurants for Mother&#8217;s Day to book (OK, you can&#8217;t book them all but you get what we mean). Its 30 March line-up is also individually priced but super-reasonable. There&#8217;s prawn cocktail (£8.95) or antipasti with sun-dried tomatoes and olives (£8.75) just some of the starters. Next comes the big event; we&#8217;d pick sea bass with ratatouille and baby sweet potatoes (£16.25). Last are those sweet treats: yes please to the strawberry gateaux with pouring cream (£7.25).</p>
