<p>Exploring the 200-acres of <a href="https://www.markshall.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Markshall Arboretum &amp; Gardens</a> should keep kids busy on plenty of family days out, plus there is a library of global trees, natural play areas and the Honywood Tearoom for drinks and homemade treats. The award-winning <a href="https://www.colchester-zoo.com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Colchester Zoo</a> is less than eight miles away, and for a host of festivals, music gigs and other events, there&#8217;s Colchester&#8217;s <a href="https://colchester-events.co.uk/whats-on/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Castle Park</a>.</p>

<p><a href="https://coggeshallmuseum.org" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Coggeshall Museum</a> is a great place to learn more about the town&#8217;s buildings, artists, trade, industry and exhibits. For music, drama and comedy there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.theinstitutebraintree.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Institute</a> theatre in Braintree, and for a quirky day out, check out the <a href="https://earm.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">East Anglian Railway Museum</a>&#8216;s trains, displays and demos in Wakes Colne.</p>

There is also the <a href="https://absoluteangelsnursery.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Absolute Angels Montessori Nursery</a> on your doorstep, providing preschool education for children aged two to five.</p>

Secondary <a href="https://www.honywoodschool.com">Honywood School</a> has the same rating, with an environment based on trust, respect, equity and excellence. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/essex-bedfordshire-hertfordshire/paycockes-house-and-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paycocke&#8217;s House and Gardens</a> is one of the most stunning buildings you&#8217;ll ever see. Built around 1500 for Thomas Paycocke, it&#8217;s a grand example of the wealth generated in East Anglia by the cloth trade in the 16th century, with its immense woodcarving and elaborate paneling.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>There&#8217;s no direct rail link from the capital to Coggeshall, but there are plenty of options in easy reach – there are trains from Marks Tey (10 mins from Coggeshall by car), Colchester (26 mins) or Braintree (16 mins) to London Liverpool Street. A season ticket to Marks Tey costs £6,000, Colchester is £6,404 and Braintree is £5,640. Driving the whole way in? It should take you around 90 mins.</p>
