Tim Allen’s Flitch of Bacon, Little Dunmow
This absolute gem of a restaurant with rooms has been luring foodies from the capital and beyond since winning the prestigious Michelin honour in 2018
Humbly perched in the picturesque hamlet of Little Dunmow – a stone’s throw from the quiet passing wash of River Chelmer and market town of Bishop’s Stortford – is Essex’s first and only Michelin star restaurant, Tim Allen’s Flitch of Bacon.
Affectionately named after an old folk ritual dating back to 1104 in Dunmow and housed in a stunning 16th century Grade I-listed building, this absolute gem of a restaurant with rooms has been luring foodies from the capital and beyond since winning the prestigious Michelin honour in 2018. Understandably, owner Allen is thrilled to have created such an incredible dining experience for local gourmands ever since.
‘My experienced, friendly team and I are proud to offer located sourced, seasonal menus plus hand-picked wines in the relaxed setting of our restaurants and bar,’ he says. ‘It’s easy to see why the Flitch has become a real favourite in Essex’s blossoming restaurant scene.’
Indeed, with farm-to-fork tasting menus leading the venue’s gastronomic charge for excellence, it’s a no-brainer for special occasions, Sunday feasts and mid-week treats. Our top tip? Splurge on the Flitch of Bacon’s Gourmet Experience (from £255 for two people), which includes an overnight stay in one of the restaurant’s three luxury rooms (avec slap-up breakfast the following morning); an incredible five-course tasting menu; seasonally sourced Bellini cocktails; a selection of Allen’s handcrafted luxury chocolates; plus a special menu to take home signed by none other than Tim Allen himself.
