New Day Originals, Brentwood

A small family business making a big impression with its stylishly sustainable clothing and homewares

Fashion that makes you look and feel good? Cue New Day Originals: an eco-friendly indie with serious style appeal.

This fab family business is run by husband-and-wife team Dave and Finula (Fin to her friends) Crowe and was founded during lockdown 2020 with the main goal of creating one-of-a-kind, planet-friendly pieces. And, when we say one-of-a-kind, we mean one-of-a-kind. Think bold, statement prints – from wild jungle (hello, tiger) to popping paisley – painted on maxi dresses, blouses, slogan sweatshirts and accessories. Each chic motif is made using traditional bloc printed dying methods to ensure its quality and uniqueness.

Designed by Irish-born Crowe (now a stylish resident of Brentwood), the collections are predominantly created using 100% eco cotton and any man-made components that are used have been recycled first. That’s not all. The brand’s sweatshirts and tees have had the PETA and Vegan stamp of approval and its packaging is sustainably sourced and made of recycled and recyclable materials. Our favourite bit? The couple will hand-deliver any orders within 5 miles (and sometimes further) of their home to reduce their carbon footprint. Brilliant.

The ethical indie also loves to support other local businesses – from artists and designers to stores and stockists. You’ll find her latest line in La Pomme in Ingatestone and Sonia @ 48 in Writtle, for example. Credit cards at the ready…
