Creeksea Place Barns, Burnham-on-Crouch
Unplug from daily life at this lush collection of self-catering barns on the outskirts of Burnham on Crouch – aka ‘the Cowes of the East Coast’.
Nestled along the banks of the River Crouch, Creeksea Place Barns is a fab set-up for anything from a romantic getaway to a big ol’ bash. With six cool, quirky and downright luxe barns, each sleeping two to eight guests, they can be hired individually or you can book up the whole caboodle exclusively at weekends for up to 30 of your nearest and dearest.
The Hen House and Fishman’s Lodge are spread over two floors with a kitchen and living area on the ground floor, and a bedroom and bathroom upstairs – perfect for a cosy couple. Not planning on doing any cooking and certainly no washing up? Then one of the hotel-style options, Lavender Room or Garden Suite, will be perfect.
River View sleeps four people, and features a double and twin bedroom. The fully equipped kitchen and open plan living space with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams are set off by a dramatic iron chandelier. You’ll also find beautiful views of the River Crouch through a large picture window.
The Hay Loft sleeps five people, and is decked out with an eclectic mix of stylish furnishings. The vaulted living area includes a mezzanine bedroom with three single beds, while downstairs, there’s the master bedroom featuring a spectacular antique French bed.
Swift Barn also sleeps five people, and features a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area accented by more of those lovely rustic beams. With three bedrooms and two bathrooms, it’s great for groups of friends. The spacious master bedroom suite has a grand king-size bed, private seating area and en-suite bathroom. There’s also a fantastic double bedroom high in the eaves of the roof on a mezzanine level and an additional single bedroom.
The Granary is the largest barn at Creeksea Place Barns, sleeping eight people in four en-suite bedrooms. It also comes with serious wow factor, thanks to the vaulted dining space (big enough to seat those 30 party pals), lit by a dramatic crystal chandelier, and French doors that lead out to a covered al-fresco dining area. The barn is decked out with an eclectic mix of original artwork and stylish furniture, while the kitchen is a hostess with the mostess’ dream.
All the barns get to enjoy the BBQ area in the courtyard. Or, make it super easy for yourselves and dine at the Parlour Café, serving up everything from delish brunches and iced coffees to bean burgers and chilled glasses of bubbles. There’s also a the state-of-the-art gym and a spa, where you can unwind with a massage at the hands of qualified therapists.
Quirky additions in the grounds include some super-friendly Anglo-Nubian goats, and the farm’s very own disc golf and foot golf courses. There’s also a 9-hole short disc golf course for beginners and an 18-hole pro course for those wanting more of a challenge.
As lovely as the farm is, it’s worth tearing yourself away, to explore some of the great coastal paths that are on the doorstep. Or, head on over to the historic quayside of Burnham on Crouch, where you’ll find old-world charm a-plenty. There’s also some lovely cosy pubs and sailing clubs where you can kick back with a sundowner – the sunsets here are what Instagram was made for!
