Hot New Openings

Pavilion Restaurant Colchester

Rumour has it that Colchester’s super-stylish and totally Instagrammable Pavilion restaurant will be opening a brand new branch in Southend. Whoop! Set to be housed in the new luxury apartment complex in Western Esplanade, the whispers are that it will open its doors in 2021. What can you look forward to? Panoramic views of the Thames Estuary, fine Asian-inspired dishes and of course, show-stopping floral displays (perfect if you’re partial to the odd selfie or two).

Grain

When one door closes, another opens. And, this couldn’t be more true for Grain owner Paul Wendholt who, after having to shut the doors of his first Colchester-based restaurant (cheers Coronavirus), is due to open his next exciting eatery in spring 2021. Wendholt recently teased on his Instagram page that Kintsu will be his next food baby, so to speak, and will follow similar values of its predecessor (think small, contemporary British plates). Watch this space…

Forget the Grinch, it’s the pandemic that stole Christmas this year with firm favourite Après Bar in Chelmsford unable to open its cabin doors this year. While you can’t be there in person this year, you can be there in ‘spirit’ by following and supporting them on Instagram – we are fully supporting their festive tipple recipes FYI. *Hic*

Enlightened Hylands House

What’s more ‘super flashy’ than a park filled with Christmas lights? Hylands Estate in Chelmsford is brightening every one’s mood this December with Enlightened: a brand new and totally enchanting outdoor trail illuminated by twinkling lights and projections. Pre-booked tickets are available from Thursday 3rd – Wednesday 30th December.

Chin, Gin!

The Only Way is Gin

OMG! Essex has its very own gin. And, for this Muddy Editor it doesn’t get much better than that – am I right? The Only Way is Gin (with the help of industry professional Jamie Baxter) create handcrafted gin distilled with the finest local botanicals. First up? Poppy seeds! The county flower of Essex is combined with orange blossom (reminiscent of founder Nikki’s time living in Valencia), juniper and other carefully selected ingredients. Yum! With the promise of more delicious flavours to come, the brand will also be opening up its very own gin school, distillery and shop. Day/week/month/year made.
